Taken around 1880 this striking photograph is an image that can benefit from both restoration and some creative enhancement.

Working close to single pixel level all of the tiny marks and scratches that cover its surface have been removed. The image has then been extended to allow the vignette border to be recreated as a perfect oval, which helps to focus attention on the central portrait.

Colour tinting the picture involves over 50 different layers, gently blended over the original. The photographers card border was recreated and the embossed text sharpened and enhanced. Picture and border combined gives a fresh new look to a wonderful vintage image
